Chantelle Meyeraan has established a new “first” for the CTE Academy. Chantelle is our first “See the Vision” winner from our brand-new Agriculture Program. Our ground-breaking student is a junior from Roosevelt High School and is enrolled in Small Animal Science. Chantelle plans to take Large Animal Science in the spring semester. Chantelle wrote about her class, “I enjoy the hands-on learning and how relative it to the work force.” Her teacher, Mr. Jensen, said it is Chantelle’s approach to class that is the difference maker, “Chantelle always brings a smile to class, is always ready to lend a hand and is always supportive of her classmates.” Chantelle has made it clear that she loves animals and she hopes to work in animal science and agriculture some day. Chantelle – we think your abilities to initiate conversations, work on projects and communicate with other students is exceptional. Those skills together with a love for animals will make you a ground-breaking difference maker in the industry of animal science.
In the world of career and technical education, we often talk about industry standards. Industry standards is what our students need to understand and be able to do. In this case, it is being able to run a telehandler in Carpentry class. Each student is able to gain telehandler experiences with close supervision and the skill for handling materials.
The Sioux Falls Native American Day Parade is BACK for its 5th year celebrating heritage and culture in our community! Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun this Native American Day, Monday, October 10th. Celebrations start as early as 9 am, with the parade beginning at 11 am on 13th Street and Phillips. The theme of this year is “Wounspewicakyag Hena Ob Maunipi” – We Walk With Our Teachers.
The Native American Day Parade & celebrations are hope in continued healthy dialogue on conversations surrounding the health and well-being of Native Americans & Sioux Falls community through truth, reconciliation, and self-representation. #SiouxFallsNADP

Harmony Hutchinson is our first “See the Vision” winner of the school year. Harmony is a sophomore from Roosevelt High School and she is a veteran CTE student. Harmony has taken Robotics, Baking and Pastries and now she is taking Accounting I in our Academy of Finance Program. Harmony likes the hands-on-experiences and plans to apply for internships using what she has learned at the CTE Academy. Her teacher, Mrs. Brunken, says that Harmony has a skill for understanding and explaining what numbers mean. Mrs. Brunken said, “I look forward to providing opportunities to enhance Harmony’s financial aptitude and to work with her remarkable attitude. Harmony will be an excellent business leader in our community.” Harmony, we are thrilled to be a part of your journey to adulthood. We see your attitude, aptitude and efforts. Congratulations! Students in the Natural Resources class learned about pollution and were tasked with an oil spill clean up using a variety of everyday items like cotton balls, straws, and feathers to see which was most effective in their clean up! #careerandtechnicaleducation #siouxfalls #learnbydoing

Students created history of health care timelines in Health Careers and also practiced being patients getting in and out of the hospital beds, learned how to operate the hospital beds, and learned how to take pulses.
Excuse us while we brag for a minute… Our Superintendent is pretty talented! Dr. Jane Stavem is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, trumpet player, French horn player, percussionist, xylophone player… oh, and she also plays harmonica! 😉 These talents, along with her deep love for all things Fine Arts, earned her the honor of Parade Marshal for Festival of Bands 2022! We are proud to be lead by someone who values the role extracurriculars play in “preparing each student to succeed in a changing world!”
CTE staff supporting Orange Shirt Day!
Friday, September 30th, 2022, is Orange shirt day which began in Canada in 2013. It promotes awareness about the history of American Indian and Native Residential boarding school systems, which still impact Native American and First Nations communities in the United States and Canada. The day honors the children who were removed from their families and forced into boarding schools and remembers those who never returned home.

Build Dakota is a South Dakota workforce development initiative that offers full-ride scholarships to students attending one of South Dakota’s four technical colleges in a high-need field. In return for the full-ride scholarship, scholars agree to work in that field, in South Dakota, for 3 years upon completion of the program. Last year Build Dakota offered full-ride scholarships to over 400 individuals and over 2800 individuals since the program began in 2015. The application window is January 1-March 31, 2023.
Our Carpentry students are learning to stake out a building foundation for excavation. Using string, stakes, sledgehammer, measuring tapes, transit, and measuring from corner to corner, the students are setting up the building to be square and level. A great educational foundation for our up and coming builders!
